Performance: Uprising #14”
Summer 2009

Please join SWFN and the Chicago based performance Artist Nicole Garneau this Sunday in the wonderfully cherry blossomed Berkeley for UPRISING #14 “What would you die for?” Ruminations on the Prague spring protests of 1969, life, death and love. Followed by artist brunch.

UPRISING is a 5-year series of monthly public performances presented by Chicago’s Links Hall that take place outside and in non-traditional spaces. This project is inspired by the words of poet Sekou Sundiata, who called on artists and activists to “uncover a ‘transcendent’ vision of society that lifts our visions to the highest possibilities of human conduct.”

Nicole Garneau is an interdisciplinary artist involved in experimental theater, music, dance, visual art, gender performance, and writing. For 15 years, she has worked closely with Insight Arts, an arts organization dedicated to increasing access to cultural work that promotes social justice and defends human rights. She is interested in creating performance and visual artwork that is directly political, critically conscious, and community building.
